Biography of Viktor Mastoridis
Viktor was born in Greece 1963. In 1969 his family moves to (ex-)Yugoslavia, where in the 80's he starts his music career. In 1990 he moves to the Netherlands, and in 1997 eventually settles down in London, UK.
Being Gemini in the Horoscope, there are two simultaneous paths in Viktor's musical development:
The Western, in which he started as a Blues guitarist/composer (Eric Clapton) who developed into an Art/Prog Rock (Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin) and later New Wave musician. This culminated with his creation of a Yugoslavian Hip-Hop band who was the first to sing in its native tongues: Serbo-Croatian and Macedonian. This results in a great concert activity and underground popularity. Their song 'Rapovanje' becomes a great success throughout the ex-Yugoslavian territories, which leads to many participations in Festivals, TV and Radio shows. Finally, the song is published on a compilation album (Subotica 1989).
The Eastern musical path, where he starts to study Balkan folk tunes and dances and later obtains a Greek Bouzouki and Macedonian Tambura. This leads him into the Greek-Yugoslavian folk music scene: restaurants, sea resorts etc. Viktor performed numerous gigs with Folk music bands in Macedonia, Greece and the Adriatic coast.
This happens at the same with the advance of his Hop-Hop band, Super Nova.
However, the Balkan folk music opens up new musical worlds: amazing, mind-blowing rhythms, out-of-this-world scales, warmth, wisdom, depth...
The East/West World Music Path
Moving to the West ( the Netherlands and later UK) Viktor realizes that both Eastern and Western Worlds of Music could be merged. He finally gets a clear vision of his mission: to expand and enrich the boundaries of music, by combining Rock and Blues styles with the uneven time signatures and colourful scales of the East.
In the Netherlands he gets a Degree in the SAE: School of Audio Engineering in Amsterdam.
Arriving in London, UK, Viktor starts recording as an independent musician and to date he has released nine albums ranging from Children's music to World Prog Fusion.
At present, Viktor is working as a free-lance composer and music teacher.
