I helped prepare a few Christmas Shows at the school where I work, and the Poverty Carol took my attention. So I recorded my own vision of this beautiful Welch Carol. I hope that you'll find it listenable :-)

TV Music
Julius from A-Class Productions started recording music signature tunes for the new Paul Merton TV series on Ch 5. As Merton will be going to Ireland, Germany, France, Spain and Italy, I was called in to play the guitar and mandolin and 'spanify' and 'italianify' some of the programme music. The series will be broadcasted in a few months time.
New Project: Valkania
The last couple of months I have been busy gathering musicians for a Greek-Balkan acoustic project called Valkania. The name derives from the way the Greeks pronounce the word Balkans (Βαλκάνια).
So far, there are six musicians in the project, including me: Chris (Greek bouzouki), Rob (piano), Jurand (guitar), Didier (bass) and Andy (percussion). It will take a few months before we head for the performing scenes around London, and through this Newsletter I will be posting performance dates.

Song of the Month, June 2009

The song of the month June 2009, is Sekerino (Шеќерино Малој Моме), a Macedonian traditional song in my arrangement and performance. On the request of my wife Ginka.
According to her, the lyrics are very poetic and romantic. A young man is courting a girl called Sekerina (made of sugar).
The rhythm is a typical for the western part of the Balkans and the Greeks call it Tsamiko (3/2).
