Chords
In forming chords it's important to understand three
basic rules:
1. One or two notes played at the same time makes
Melody. three or more notes played at the same time makes a Chord.
2.The interval of Third decides the nature of the
scale: Minor or Major. Thus, if there's a Minor Third present in
the chord, it's a Minor Chord. If a Major Third is there, we are
talking about a Major Chord
3. 99% of chords have perfect Fifth.
If you are familiar with
Intervals, creating chords is easy. So, to form a basic chord
(Triad), we need three notes: First, Third and Fifth.
Major chord: 1, 3, 5
C Major: C, E, G
Minor Chord: 1, 3b, 5
C Minor: C, Eb, G
From now on you can add any note/interval and
enrich the basic Triad ("X" is the example) :
X6: 1, 3. 5. 6
C6: 1, 3, 5, 6
Xm7/9-: 1, 3b, 5, 7, 9b
Cm7/9-: C, Eb, G, Bb, Db
