about

I didn't know this song until I started researching chants for this album. It struck me that here, Greensleeves was used, a tune that I really love a lot. I also believed that it was written by Henry VIII too, now I am convinced it wasn't.
The wizardry (Balkanization) here is created by another beautiful eastern rhythm, the 5/8 (3+2). This is a light folk-dance rhythm, and Greensleeves fits so naturally into it. The bouzouki enters playing only on the low strings, which creates a nice contrast with the high pitched baglamas that opens the tune.
