about

This is the tune that made me believe that Greek versions of the popular Christmas Carols could actually work. To me, this is the ultimate Balkanization of the tune. The 9/8 rhythm into which this song is transformed, is used at weddings in the Balkans. It provides that furiously joyous atmosphere that defines the bright side of life there. The main point is that the transformation and stretch into 2+2+2+3/8 doesn't take away anything from melody, actually it does add a bit of impatience. Although probably many will disagree with this statement.
